Best Items to Pack When Planning for Summer Camp

Summer camp is awesome. We all know that. But packing for summer camp? Not so much. Having a suitcase filled with just the bare essentials is pretty boring, let’s be honest. Nothing too exciting about packing away a toothbrush or extra pairs of underwear. It’s time to shake things up a bit. While making sure you bring a toothbrush, towel, extra clothes or any of the other necessities is very important, making sure you leave space for something with a little more sentimental value is a great way to share a little bit of home with your new found summer camp friends!

So what awesome items should you pack with you before you head off to summer camp? Here are some of our favorite few ideas.

Pet Selfies From Home

Nothing lights up a camper’s face more than when they see some pictures of their furry friends from back home. Kids always seem to have the closest relationship with the family pet, and having pictures to hang around your bunk really helps on the days when homesickness kicks in.

Comic Books or Magazines

It’s not always go, go, go at camp. There can be plenty of downtime. Give yourself something to read and stay entertained during that downtime. A few of your favorite comic books or magazines are an excellent way to kill time between rounds of Gaga ball and capture the flag – plus, you gain some brownie points with other campers by letting your friends borrow them.

Glow Sticks and Glow in the Dark Stuff

There are plenty of camp activities that take place at night, and nothing increases the fun of those camp activities quite like glow sticks and other glow-in-the-dark items, like bracelets, necklaces, or shirts. Campers love running around at parties at night chased by glow-in-the-dark accessories.

Thoughtful Letter

Nothing caps off the best items to bring with you to summer camp better than a thoughtful letter from mom and dad. It doesn’t have to be from mom or dad either, any thoughtful letter that holds sentimental value can easily brighten up your day when things aren’t going perfect. For parents, try sneaking in a letter into your child’s suitcase before you drop them off. They won’t know it’s there until they unpack and reading about how proud you are of them might bring out the waterworks but they’ll cherish that letter for the rest of their lives.
